11:09 a.m., May 21, 2012--The University of Delaware Alumni Association (UDAA) and Office of Alumni Relations took part in the Residence Life Laird-a-palooza event on Saturday, May 12.

The UDAA gave members of the Class of 2014 T-shirts as part of a sophomore class T-shirt swap to help them show off their class pride.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

In return, sophomores gave over 130 of their own used T-shirts, which will be donated to Goodwill Industries.

The swap focused mainly on the T-shirts but also gave the sophomores a chance to find their names on the Class of 2014 banner, to vote on ideas for their junior class event and to decorate flowerpots with UD inspired items.

Brianna Aloia, an elementary teacher education major from Wycoff, N.J., transferred to UD in the fall of 2011 from the University of Alabama. She said she was thrilled to be able to sign the banner and to feel part of the class with which she will graduate.

In addition, sophomores were given the opportunity to vote on their favorite idea for a junior year event to be held sometime in 2012-13. A “Halfway There” theme was the clear front-runner. More information about this event will be shared once the Class of 2014 returns from summer break.

Regina Donato, associate director of reunions and student programs for the Office of Alumni Relations, said the purpose of the T-shirt swap was two-fold -- "to connect with sophomores who will one day become proud UD alumni, and to benefit a local charity in the spirit of service."

“Our students are our future, and the best ambassadors of the University,” Donato said. “In a few years, the Class of 2014 will graduate, and though they will go out into the world as alumni, they will be Blue Hens forever.”
