4:20 p.m., May 31, 2012--The University of Delaware Outdoor Pool has a new feature this summer, especially for young patrons under 4 feet tall.

The new Splash Pool, which replaces the baby pool, offers youngsters a variety of wet and wild experiences, including water squirting from above and below and an mushroom that sends cascades of water on those underneath it.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

"Early response to the new Splash Pool has been very positive," said Jim Kaden, assistant director of the UD Ice Arena and Outdoor Pool. "We're excited to be able to offer such a fun summer experience for our younger patrons."

As kids enter the Splash Pool, which is more than 56 feet long and 22 feet wide, they walk through a series of water jets and the depth gradually increases up to 8 inches.  In the middle of the pool, the depth is between 8 and 12 inches, and the end of the pool features a large water mushroom, where the depth of the pool is between 12 and 16 inches.

On Saturday, June 2, a UD football helmet slide will be added to the Splash Pool.

Located behind the Gold Ice Arena on South College Avenue, the University of Delaware Outdoor Pool is the largest in the state. The 50-meter pool is equipped with two pool slides and is kept at a constant, comfortable temperature.

Any UD employee with a valid ID can use for the pool by paying a $5 daily fee. This rate is also available for employee guests.

UD undergraduate and graduate students can use the pool by paying $3 per day, and they may bring guests to the pool at the same rate.

Family and individual memberships in the pool are available for members of the community and for UD employees. For more information, visit the membership page on the Outdoor Pool website
