The Chronicle of Higher Education is the premier publication in the United States about higher education and is the major source of news, information and commentary regarding issues shaping higher education. The Chronicle was founded in 1966 and is based in Washington, D.C. The Library was able to subscribe to The Chronicle as a result of reallocation of resources.

At the website, a user can search the content from a variety of sources, including print issues published from 1989, online-only news updates, blogs, survey data, commentary and recent job announcements. Users can also participate in blogs, forums and discussions online about issues covering higher education.

Some of the highlights of The Chronicle’s website, which is updated throughout the day, include:

• the text from the current print edition, posted every Monday morning;

• a searchable archive of previously published content;

• commentary and essays from the weekly magazine, The Chronicle Review;

• all the data from the annual Chronicle Almanac and other special, single-topic reports; and

• expanded news coverage of higher-education events and people from around the world at

Free email newsletters are also available, including Academe Today, the Chronicle’s popular daily report. Newsletters on specific topics such as global events, graduate students, hiring and technology are also available. Those more interested in discussions and ideas rather than hard news can receive the weekly Chronicle Review email newsletter. For more information, visit The Chronicle’s site map at [].

In addition, The Chronicle offers easy access from an iPad, smart phone or tablet, and from any computer anywhere in the world without having to go through a proxy server. To take advantage of this option, authorized users create a free Chronicle account at [] using their University email address and then login using that account. The user name and password created by a user will turn a Chronicle Campuswide subscription to Chronicle everywhere. This should greatly appeal to those who read Academe Today or any of the Chronicle’s other e-newsletters from locations off campus.
