UD’s professional development certificate programs include popular and growing fields such as project management, clinical trials management and business analysis. Demand for project management training has been increasing steadily, with three full sections accounting for more than half of the certificate graduates this spring. A Dover section of UD’s Project Management Certificate will be added in September.
Last semester was the first time students in UD’s certificate programs had the opportunity to take advantage of new professional enrichment options as a part of their certificate program registration, including a leadership training e-module, free career exploration and advisement services, one-on-one professional skills coaching, career and personal development seminars and more.
Supplemental seminars offered to certificate participants last semester were “Balancing Your Life and Reducing Your Stress,” presented by career coach Kathy Marcolina, and “Interviewing Skills: Both Sides of the Table,” presented by Michelle Parnell and Susan Boudreaux, academic and career advisers in UD's Division of Professional and Continuing Studies. Both seminars were well received by participants, many of whom commented enthusiastically about the beneficial insights and tips they’d received and would be applying to their careers and personal lives.
The leadership e-module is a self-paced, computer-based learning activity that covers the essential elements and core practices of leadership, including extensive self-assessment. Participants commented that the e-module was very beneficial, as well as user-friendly. Certificate participants also took advantage of the one-on-one professional career coaching option, focusing on job search strategies, resume review and interviewing skills, among others.
Fall 2012 professional development certificates begin in September. Those interested are invited to attend an information session at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 19, at the Doubletree Hotel in Wilmington.
Certificate programs presented at the information session will be Business Analyst, Clinical Trials Management, Financial Planning, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Paralegal and Project Management.
