University grads gather for Alumni Weekend, special events nationwide


8:53 a.m., June 1, 2012--The 2012 University of Delaware Alumni Weekend has arrived, with a variety of special events on the Newark campus June 1-3.

More than 3,800 Blue Hens have registered for Alumni Weekend, with the annual Dela-bration on Friday a large draw. The event will feature music, food and commemorative mugs.

The University of Delaware's Nii Attoh-Okine recently published a new book with Cambridge University Press, "Resilience Engineering: Models and Analysis."

Reviresco June run

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Saturday's activities include the Blue Hen 5K run and walk at 9 a.m. and the Blue Hen Brunch on The Green from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

UD President Patrick Harker will discuss major accomplishments of the recently completed academic year during a "State of the University" address at 2 p.m., Saturday, in Mitchell Hall and the Alumni Wall of Fame induction ceremony will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Roselle Center for the Arts.

Other activities scheduled for the coming weeks include:

Saturday, June 9, 8 a.m.: Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon. Blue Hens in the Chicago area will participate in a day of service to support public school students in the city.

Saturday, June 9, 2:30 p.m.: Baltimore Alumni Club at the Orioles. Blue Hens will get together at Orioles Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore to cheer on the O's as they take on the Phillies. Before the game, participants can enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet at the Warehouse in the ballpark.

Saturday, June 9, 7 p.m.: UD alumni at Boston lacrosse. Alumni will gather in the stands at Harvard Stadium to cheer on the Boston Cannons as they take on Long Island Lizards in a Major League Lacrosse game.

Sunday, June 10, 5:30 p.m.: First alumni event in Portland. UD alumni in Portland, Ore., will gather for the inaugural event in the city at the Bridgeport Brewing Co.

Saturday, June 16, 4 p.m.: NCC Alumni Club at the Philadelphia Union. The New Castle County Alumni Club will hold its second annual Philadelphia Union game and tailgate at PPL Park.

Sunday, June 17, 12:15 p.m.: Lehigh Valley Alumni Club at Ironpigs. Lehigh Valley Blue Hens will spend Father’s Day at the ballpark, cheering on the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs.

Monday, June 18, noon: 2012 Alumni China Trip. UD friends, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to a private trip to China under the direction of two experienced bilingual and bicultural touring directors originally from China.

Monday, June 18, 11 a.m.: Road trip from Lehigh Valley to UD golf tournament. The Lehigh Valley Alumni Club is coordinating carpools from the valley to Wilmington for a golf tournament.

Monday, June 18, 6:30 p.m.: Lecture, reception and exhibition at the Guggenheim in New York City. Joan Marter, a 1974 alumna, will speak on "The Perils of Progress: Artists and the Atomic Age," followed by a reception and view of the exhibition.

Thursday, June 21, 5 p.m.: Networking happy hour at Gary's Dewey Beach Grill. Blue Hens will get together for an afternoon of networking, light fare, drinks and conversation about the increasing utilization of solar energy in Delaware.

Thursday, June 21, 5:30 p.m.: Chicago alumni happy hour. UD graduates in the Chicago area will get together for happy hour at Vines on Clark in Wrigleyville.

Thursday, June 21, 6 p.m.: Evening of Conversation and Connections with Washington, D.C., Alumni. The Washington, D.C., Alumni Club will hold An Evening of Conversation and Connections with Washington alumni.

Thursday, June 21, 6 p.m.: Philadelphia alumni happy hour. UD alumni in the Philadelphia area will gather at the Alfa American Tavern.
