University honored in Chronicle's Great Colleges to Work For 2011

1:10 p.m., July 26, 2011--The University of Delaware has been named one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s 2011 Great Colleges to Work For program.

UD was cited for its “Compensation and Benefits,” marking the third straight year that the University has been cited in the category.  The Chronicle noted the importance of “concrete benefits and policies that convince employees that they are valuable and that the college is willing to put resources behind them.”

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

The Chronicle also highlighted the fact that UD "employees can reap the benefits of the University's free fitness center" and "get an annual $75 credit that can be used toward additional on-site services like health assessments and blood screenings."

“The Chronicle’s recognition affirms our success in providing resources, benefits and programs that make employees feel valued,” UD President Patrick Harker said.  “We are committed to building on this achievement, finding new opportunities to engage and inspire our employees, and joining together to continue making UD a great place to work.”

This year's results are based on a survey of nearly 44,000 employees at 310 colleges and universities. Recognition in each Great College category was given to the 10 highest-scoring institutions in each size for four-year colleges.

Great Colleges to Work For is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. For more information and to view all the results of the survey, visit the Chronicle's website.
