In addition to professors, graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to judge the event, even if they do no have a science background. “Anyone who is willing to review some very hard work of middle and high school students and provide constructive feedback is welcome,” Trish Warriner, program manager, said.

Selected judges may evaluate students in behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, botany, chemistry, computer science, consumer science, earth and space sciences, engineering, environmental science, mathematics, medicine, microbiology, physics and zoology.

Judges will assess students’ creative ability, scientific thought, thoroughness, skill and clarity. They will also have the opportunity to ask students questions.

“The students are so proud, and it’s wonderful to see the parents watch the students receive rewards for their hard work and effort,” Warriner said.

Applications will be accepted until the panel is full, and judging will take place on Feb. 29. For more information and to view the judge’s application, visit the Expo website or contact Trish Warriner for more information.
