UD's Xiang Gao awarded second overseas visiting professorship
8:53 a.m., Jan. 27, 2012--In December 2011, while touring southern China as a concert soloist representing the University of Delaware, internationally renowned faculty violinist and founding artistic director of the UD Master Players Concert Series Xiang Gao was awarded a visiting professor position by the Fujian Normal University (FNU) in Fuzhou, China.
During the trip, Gao gave a solo recital at Xiamen University (XU). He was invited to perform by XU President Zhu Chongshi in celebration of the one-year anniversary of the XU-UD Confucius Institute.

As a result of the extremely successful concert and visit, major cultural exchange activities between the two partner universities are planned by Gao and his XU music colleagues for the 2012-13 concert season.
In October 2010, Gao received his first named visiting professorship overseas when he was named Zijiang Professor of Music by the East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai.
ECNU is one of China’s top universities and another of UD's partner institutions.
The second visiting professorship Gao received last month is the highest honor FNU grants to world-class scholars and artists who have made an impact in their field worldwide.
The award ceremony took place following Gao’s solo recital at the Fuzhou Grand Theatre, one of Asia’s most prestigious concert halls. The dean of the FNU School of Music hosted the event on stage.
UD performances
Gao will perform at UD in February, with concerts at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18, in Mitchell Hall.
His internationally renowned duet 6ixwire Project will present a crossover jazz concert featuring musicians from New Orleans, Philadelphia, Wilmington and UD.
