

Feb. 20-24: Osher open house week
Community invited to experience UD's Lifelong Learning program in Wilmington
11:55 a.m., Feb. 14, 2012--For those 50 or older, this spring offers a great chance to participate in one of the most dynamic learning cooperatives in the country -- Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Wilmington. The program has no tests, no grades, no papers -- just learning for the fun of it.
Members of the community are invited to experience the Osher Lifelong Learning program during a special open house week, Feb. 20-24, and register for the entire spring semester for the discounted fee of $180, reduced from the regular semester fee of $230. Current Osher Lifelong Learning members are invited to bring a friend to experience the benefits of this program.

Topics for spring courses include history, political science, health and wellness, information technology, fine arts, music and many more. Some specific course titles include "African-American Experience Through Art," "Gothic Cathedrals," "Current Events," "Sexuality: It’s For Life," "Welcome to Your iDevice," "Cowboys and Indians," "Drum Circle," "Genealogy Research" and "Yoga and Golf," to name just a few.
The program has more than 2,000 members, and participants will encounter intellectual challenges and find new friends. This is an opportunity to discover hidden talents and explore interests with peers.
Special activities during “Bring a Friend” week include:
- Guests may attend classes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day during this complimentary open house week and experience learning for the fun of it! (View a list of courses offered this spring by visiting this website.
- Tuesday, Feb. 21Cookie social (1:30 p.m.)
- Wednesday, Feb. 22Presentation about Pencader Heritage Museum by Bill Conley, Barbara White and Marcia Adams of the Pencader Heritage Area Association (12:45 to 1:45 p.m.)
- Friday, Feb. 24Presentation by Danielle Rice, director of the Delaware Art Museum. An illustrated lecture on the work Portrait of Rebecca Gratz by Thomas Sully (1830), covering the art, history and culture of the time this piece was painted. (12:30-1:45 p.m.)
First-time new members can register for the semester for the discounted fee of $180, which includes up to five courses and many extracurricular activities. Register in person during Bring a Friend week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
