March 2: Occupy Wall Street roundtable

Roundtable discussion to look at Occupy Wall Street, crisis in higher education


1:42 p.m., Feb. 23, 2012--An event titled “We are the 99 percent: A Roundtable Discussion of Occupy Wall Street and the Crisis in Higher Education” will be held from 3-4:15 p.m., Friday, March 2, in 124 Memorial Hall.

Roundtable panelists will include faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students from across a range of disciplines.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Topics to be discussed will include:

  • The significance of Occupy Wall Street.
  • Occupy Wall Street and how it relates to issues on campus at UD and to higher education in general, including rising tuition costs and cuts to state funding.
  • Possible responses to national inequalities as a campus community and as citizens.

A representative said that in an election year, the roundtable will provide a forum for discussion of "meaningful solutions for meaningful problems."
