University colloquium to consider 'Tensions in Global Governance'


7:48 a.m., Feb. 16, 2012--The University of Delaware Department of Political Science and International Relations will sponsor a spring colloquium, "Tensions in Global Governance," beginning Feb. 24 and continuing through April 20.

Sessions will be held Fridays from 2:30-4 p.m. in 116 Gore Hall.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

The schedule is as follows:

• Friday, Feb. 24 -- "Globalism: Where Does the West Belong in a Post-Western World?," Ruth Bevan, Yeshiva University.

• Friday, March 2 -- "Reflections on Africa's Responsibility to Protect," Kwame Akonor, Seton Hall University.

• Friday, March 16 -- "Managing Climate Change: The Biggest Challenge to Global Governance Ever," John Mathiason, Syracuse University.

• Friday, March 23 -- "National Security/Human Security: The Maoist Insurgency in India," Veena Thadani, New York University.

• Friday, April 20 -- "Regardless of Frontiers: The Principles of World Communication," Ted Madger, New York University.
