Smith has been principal horn with the Chamber Orchestra since 2008, and will perform Mozart's Concerto No. 4 with music director Dirk Brossé on the podium.
In addition to his teaching duties at UD, Smith enjoys an active performance career, frequently appearing with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and as principal horn of the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
He holds master's and doctoral degrees from the Juilliard School, diplomas from the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music in London, and a bachelor's degree from Indiana University.
"I was thrilled when Maestro Brossé asked me to solo with the Chamber Orchestra this season, and to be among a line-up of distinguished world-class soloists is really an honor," Smith said. "This Mozart concerto has been an important work in my performance career, so I'm delighted to have the opportunity to work with my Chamber Orchestra colleagues in this way."
The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia is a resident ensemble of the Kimmel Center, along with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Opera Company of Philadelphia, and has enriched the cultural life of the city for 47 seasons. The orchestra's concerts take place in the intimate Perelman Theater, adjacent to Verizon Hall in the Kimmel Center.
Schedule and ticket information can be found at the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia website.
Smith also performs this month in Philadelphia with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops and will be featured as a soloist with the UD Chamber Orchestra on March 9, 2012, with a performance of Eric Ewazen's Concerto for Horn and Strings.
