Food drive
The College School accepting food drive donations through Dec. 15
11:29 a.m., Dec. 13, 2011--During the holiday season many families are not only struggling to provide gifts for their children, they’re trying to put food on the table.
For the past 10 years, The College School (TCS) at the University of Delaware has conducted a food drive to benefit the less fortunate. “It's a great way for the children to learn the importance and the joy of giving,” says Laura Dougherty, TCS interim director.

Teachers work together with the Newark Area Welfare Committee in order to conduct the drive. In an effort to encourage donations, homerooms with 100 percent participation earn a "Dress Your Way Day.”
The students enjoy the challenge and in the past have collected over 500 cans and non-perishable foods.
Once the items are compiled, students gather donations in each homeroom and the Student Government Association representatives bring it to the lobby on pick up day where the Newark Welfare Committee comes to pick up the goods.
Food donations are accepted and can be dropped off at The College School, located at 459 Wyoming Road in Newark, on UD's children's campus, through Thursday, Dec. 15. Suggested food items include: boxes of pasta, canned fruit, canned gravies, peanut butter, canned sauces, jellies, instant potatoes and cereals.
The College School is a specialized laboratory school within the University of Delaware’s College of Education and Human Development that supports children in grades 1-8 with learning differences. Classes for the 2012-2013 school year are forming now, however, they also accept candidates for admission on a rolling basis, provided space is available.
