Students sought for Julie Mapes Wilgen Award
12:06 p.m., Dec. 9, 2011--Nominations are now being sought for the Julie Mapes Wilgen Award for Human Sexuality and Gender Studies, a $1,000 award open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
The award is designed to encourage and recognize outstanding achievement by a student who has demonstrated a commitment to the field of human sexuality and gender studies and who has shown an appreciation for diversity and for the betterment of society.

To qualify, nominees must:
• Be an undergraduate or graduate student of any major at UD;
• Have attended UD for at least one year;
• Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, as evidenced by a transcript;
• Demonstrate a commitment to the study of or engage in the field of human sexuality and gender studies; and
• Demonstrate appreciation for diversity and the betterment of society.
Nominations for the award should be completed online, and self-nominations are accepted.
Submissions need to include:
• A two-page essay by the student addressing his or her demonstration of commitment and appreciation as described above;
• A current resume;
• Two letters of recommendation; and
• Contact information for the nominator and the nominee.
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 15, 2012.
The award will be presented at the Honors/Steele/Sussman Symposium by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies.
