11:17 a.m., Sept. 10, 2010----Michael A. Gladle has been named director of the University of Delaware Department of Environmental Health and Safety, it was announced today by Albert J. (Skip) Homiak Jr., executive director of campus and public safety.

Gladle joins UD after having served as director of environmental health and safety at Colgate University since 2006.

“We are pleased to welcome Mike Gladle to the University of Delaware as director of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety,” Homiak said. “He brings to UD a wealth of experience in developing and promoting progressive environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.”

While at Colgate, Gladle helped develop the environmental health and safety program to meet current and future needs of the university, and implemented community outreach opportunities for fire rescue and emergency response.

Gladle spent more than 14 years at the Emory University School of Medicine before moving to Colgate. While at Emory, he served as industrial hygiene program manager, associate director of the Environmental Health and Safety Office and as interim director of the office.

Gladle received bachelor's degree from Franklin Pierce College and Clarkson University, and a master of public health degree with emphasis in environmental and occupational health from Emory University.
