The members of the group are credited with influencing students and their peers in their research focuses and achievements, and the blog entry encourages students to seek out the knowledge of these professors by attending the schools where they teach or by reading about their work.

Brown was cited for using his position as president of the Oncology Nursing Society to lobby for better legislation to assist patients and the nurses who care for them. The citation also mentions his book, A Guide to Oncology Symptom Management, which recently received an Award of Excellence in the 22nd annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence, sponsored by Writing That Works.

The top 10 list comprises faculty from schools throughout the U.S., including the University of Arizona, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Pittsburgh, University of Virginia, University of Massachusetts, University of California-Los Angeles and University of Central Florida.

The professors' areas of specialty range from sleep disorders, global health and critical care nursing to oncology, geriatrics and ethnic minority health.

Brown earned his doctorate at the University of Utah. He holds several certifications, including Nurse Practitioner (NP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN).
