With expected attendance of over 300, the conference will engage the community and help to build and grow this critically important area of research and practice. Attendees will include key researchers and educators from each of the four DHSA partnership institutions -- UD, Thomas Jefferson University, Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, and Christiana Care Health System -- as well as interested community members from throughout the region.

“Our hope is that this conference will serve as a nexus for the expertise and resources needed to address the many challenges associated with the area of women's and children's health,” said Kathleen Matt, executive director of DHSA and dean of the UD College of Health Sciences.

Sarah Berga, M.D., the James Robert McCord Professor and chair of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Emory University School of Medicine, will deliver a plenary talk, “Women's and Reproductive Health: Challenges and Opportunities,” in the morning as well as a community lecture in the evening.

Berga's research focuses on understanding the impact of psychogenic and metabolic stresses on the reproductive system. She also is active clinically in treating couples with infertility, women with endocrine disorders, and menopausal women.

Breakout sessions will address a number of thematic areas, including community-based participatory research, global health, cardiovascular health, maternal/child health, cancer, adolescent health, behavioral health, and health services delivery.

The event will also feature a research poster session and reception.
