Newark Police charge two in graffiti vandalism

1:33 p.m., Oct. 14, 2010----Newark Police have arrested two 21-year-old Newark men for damaging property in Newark with graffiti over a nearly two-year period.

On Oct. 7, Jerome Aniska was charged with 10 counts of graffiti and 10 counts of possession of graffiti implements. In incidents ranging from July 2009 until September 2010, police say Aniska defaced property in areas including North Chapel Street, South College Avenue, North Street and Cleveland Avenue and that he used spray paint, makers and an etching device to damage glass doors and windows, fences, bridges, trash bins and buildings. A search warrant was executed at his house, resulting in the seizure of items containing graffiti and graffiti implements. After an initial appearane at JP Court #2, Aniska was released on an unsecured bond of $18,500.

On Oct. 12, Rocco Bradley was charged with 34 counts of graffiti and nine counts of possession of graffiti implements. In incidents from December 2008 to April 2010, police say Bradley defaced property on Main Street, South College Avenue, North Chapel Street, Creek Road and Cleveland Avenue, using spray paint and markers to damage buildings, playground equipment, bridges, walls, parking meters, utility poles, newspaper vending boxes and trash bins. After an initial appearance at JP Court 11, Bradley was released on an unsecured bond of $4,300.

Both cases were developed after it was learned that Aniska had been arrested in Philadelphia for painting graffiti similar to that found in Newark.

Police estimate that Aniska caused $1,100 damage by his vandalism and that Bradley caused $5,100 damage.
