3:56 p.m., Oct. 29, 2010----While watching televised Blue Hen football games this season, you will also see a few more Blue Hens during the commercial breaks. The University of Delaware's new “Dare to be first” television spots recently began airing.
The two spots feature a total of seven current students, chosen from an open casting call. This summer, more than 60 students showcased their talents in hopes of being included in the commercials.
The student actors seen in the commercials are:
Senior Suwan Phommachanh, an English major from Newark, Del.
Junior Victoria Richardson, an English major from Dover, Del.
Junior Vanessa DiStefano, a mass communication and psychology education major from Ringoes, N.J.
Sophomore Andrue Smith, an education major from Wilmington, Del.
Freshman Grace Wesley, an elementary education major from Hopewell, N.J.
Freshman Sage Fox, an art major from Elkton, Md.
Freshman Jacob Byers, an engineering major from Wilmington, Del.
These students give viewers a sense of UD's personality, ambition, vision and reality by relaying the University's new brand, Dare to be first.
They express details associated with the brand's six pillars, the attributes central to UD's brand identity: Talent Magnet; Idea Leadership; Discovery Learning; Smart Money; East Coast Classic; and Citizen University.
The two spots are a campus-grown venture. University Media Services and the Office of Communications and Marketing co-produced the commercials, which were shot at various locations throughout campus with additional help from the Registrar's Office, UD Athletics and the Delaware Biotechnology Institute. The music in the spots was composed by UD alum Avi Amon.
