A check for $21,500 was presented to the Special Olympics Delaware and Maryland programs in a pregame ceremony at UD's Homecoming on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Stadium. The game pitted the Blue Hens against Towson's Tigers in a Colonial Athletic Association contest, with UD winning 48-0 and improving to 8-1 on the season.

Towson student-athletes got the relay started with a ceremony Friday, Nov. 5, at Johnny Unitas Stadium. They carried the game ball to Festival Park in Aberdeen, Md., where they were welcomed by local dignitaries and UD student-athletes, coaches and administrators.

Following a brief ceremony, Towson's mascot, Doc, handed the ceremonial game ball off to Delaware's mascot, YoUDee.

Starting Saturday morning, UD student-athletes ran the ball the rest of the way to Delaware Stadium. There, they were joined by Special Olympics Delaware athletes in a pregame celebration.

Officers from both the Towson and UD Student-Athlete Advisory Councils presented the check, which will support the Special Olympics programs in both Maryland and Delaware.

The Pigskin Pass is a joint community service initiative sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Councils at both schools. Student-athletes raise money by registering to run in the event, and then getting additional sponsors to support their efforts. It is a visible example of athletes supporting athletes.
