Kobayashi is a leading scholar at the intersection of critical race and feminist theory, globalization, and cultural and social geography. Her talk will focus on the experiences of immigrant women in a time of cutbacks to services.

Principal investigator of the Citizenship, Equity, Rights, Community, Inclusion and Social Justice (CERCIS) research group at Queen's University in Canada, Kobayashi is editor of the Annals of the Association of American Geographers. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of British Columbia and a doctorate from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
