Honors

Stanley I. Sandler, Henry Belin du Pont Chair of Chemical Engineering, was honored at the AIChE annual meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Nov. 9 in celebration of his 70th birthday. The special session included remarks from University of Delaware peers Mark Barteau, Michael T. Klein, Abraham M. Lenhoff and T.W. Fraser Russell, as well as former students and academic peers at institutions such as MIT, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Princeton, Purdue, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Tsinghua University in Taiwan.

Publications

Carla Mulford, associate professor of English at Penn State University who earned her doctorate at UD in 1983, wrote a tribute to the late J.A. Leo Lemay, Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Professor of English at UD, which was published in Early American Literature, the journal Lemay launched as a newsletter in the 1960s. Lemay, who joined the UD faculty in 1977, was one of the nation's leading Benjamin Franklin scholars, writing a seven-volume biographical work and creating a website chronicling Franklin's life. Mulford's article is titled, “J.A. Leo Lemay, Ambassador of Early American Literary Studies.”

Presentations

Jennifer MacDonald, senior assistant librarian, Bibliographic Control Department, University of Delaware Library, taught “Latin for Rare Book Catalogers” at an Association of College and Research Libraries regional workshop at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., Oct. 22.

Shelly McCoy, head, Student Multimedia Design Center, University of Delaware Library, presented "Leading Successful Student Media Production Centers: Different Models, Perspectives and Recommendations" with Debra Mandel, Northeastern University Libraries, and Scott Spicer, University of Minnesota Libraries, at the 2010 Consortium of College and University Media Centers National Conference, Buffalo, N.Y., Oct. 6-10.
