8:31 a.m., Nov. 2, 2010----Anne Agnes Colwell, author and associate professor of English at the University of Delaware, will present a free public reading as part of the Department of English Speakers' Series from 5-6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the third floor lounge of Memorial Hall.

Colwell, a poet and fiction writer, teachers in UD's Associate in Arts Program in Georgetown.

Her first book of poems, Believing Their Shadows, was published by Word Press in 2010. Her poem “What You Want” was nominated for the Pushcart Prize in 2010.

In 2007, she received an Emerging Artist Award in Fiction from the Delaware State Arts Council. She also received the Dogfish Head Poetry Prize for 2007, which included publication of her chapbook Father's Occupation, Mother's Maiden Name. This chapbook won the National Association of Press Women's Award for Best Book of Verse.

Her work has appeared in several journals, including: California Quarterly, Mudlark, Evansville Review, Eclectic Literary Forum, Southern Poetry Review, Stickman Review, Poetry Bay, and Octavo. An online chapbook of her poems appears in The Alsop Review.

Colwell received the Delaware State Arts Council's Experienced Artist in Poetry Award in 1999. Her critical book, Inscrutable Houses: Metaphors of the Body in the Poems of Elizabeth Bishop, was published by the University of Alabama Press.
