PNC Bank celebrates first year as part of UD campus community

3:46 p.m., May 23, 2011--Some 365 days ago and hundreds of students supported thereafter, PNC Bank joined the University of Delaware community, bringing convenient personal banking services to faculty, staff and students.  This relationship has brought more opportunities than just a new banking relationship to campus.

PNC employees have enjoyed participating in a number of UD events, whether at New Student Orientation and the employee Benefits and Wellness Fair, spending time in the Fan Zone at football games or simply getting to know students as they stop by the Trabant University Center branch. This spring, a group from the UD Center for Disabilities Studies took a tour of the Newark branch.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

“PNC has shown a dedication to the UD community on every level, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the relationship,” said Rich Elliott, assistant vice president of treasury services.

Through the relationship, PNC has even been able to boost the functionality of the UD i-card.  By linking to their PNC accounts, students and employees can use the i-card to make secure, PIN-based purchases on and off campus at merchants where STAR and Plus are accepted.

PNC also helps students learn to use their accounts more wisely with educational resources available online, including Money 101, Credit 101 and Budgeting 101.  Specialized information is also available for international students, as they look to become more familiar with the U.S. banking system.

Moreover, students can put this education into practice with innovative products like Virtual Wallet Student, an online money management tool that helps students to build a budget and track their spending, while going so far as to alert them when they could be in danger of an overdraft.

Faculty and staff can also take advantage of Workplace Banking promotions, and parents of younger children can even bring financial education home with PNC’s Grow Up Great initiative.

“Supporting students and staff members from the Trabant University Center location has provided a terrific opportunity to not simply serve their banking needs but to become part of the university community,” said Lori Crossley, PNC branch manager. “For a few of my colleagues, the opportunity to be part of the UD community and provide a wide range of services has added an interesting twist to their own UD alumni experience.”

And of course, there is the convenience of having a PNC branch and 12 ATMs -- including three capable of accepting deposits and cashing checks down to the dollar -- right here on campus.  These machines are part of an extensive network of more than 6,600 PNC ATMs to which PNC customers have free access.

If you are interested in learning about Virtual Wallet or opening a PNC Bank account, go to the website or visit the PNC Bank Customer Service Center in the Trabant University Center.

Important change to on-campus ATMs

Since opening as PNC Bank ATMs last June, transactions at the three Trabant University Center branch ATMs have been transaction fee-free to all cardholders.  However, starting June 15, 2011, non- PNC customers will be charged a fee in the amount of $2.50 for withdrawing cash at all on-campus PNC ATMs.
