"The UD Alumni Baseball Series offers a great way to connect with fellow Blue Hens and enjoy an afternoon or evening at the ballpark," said Cindy Campanella, director of alumni relations. "With events planned across the country, we encourage alumni to consider registering for a game near them."
The first event was held at Citizens Bank Park as the Philadelphia Phillies faced the Atlanta Braves. More than 200 alumni, families and friends gathered at the Phillies Party Tent adjacent to the stadium.
Guest speakers included Mark DiNardo, a 1983 UD graduate and director of broadcasting and video services for the Phillies; Campanella, a 1984 graduate; and Ryan Conner, a 1999 graduate who went on to earn a master's degree from UD in 2004, and president of the UD Philadelphia Alumni Club.
As the pre-game reception ended, the Phillie Phanatic made a surprise appearance, which offered a great photo opportunity for alumni.
The next stop for the UD Alumni Baseball Series is at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, May 14, and then Fenway Park in Boston on Monday, May 16.
Events will be hosted at other baseball stadiums in Richmond, Va.; Chicago; Aberdeen, Md.; Little Falls, N.J.; Denver; San Francisco; Los Angeles; Baltimore; Houston; New York City, and the Lehigh Valley. Visit the UDconnection baseball website for details.
