Liaison of the quarter recognition is given to exemplary members of the University's Human Resources team.

Erica Armstrong Dunbar, acting chair of the Department of History, said the department is fortunate to have someone like Tobias, who she described as knowledgeable in many areas.

“He [Tobias] is quite efficient in the areas of processing payroll for staff and faculty, communicating information about benefits, helping to conduct searches and formalizing hires,” Dunbar said. “Mr. Tobias is a good citizen and serves as a stellar model for the staff in our department and for staff members around the entire University.”

Cynthia Bendler, senior administrative assistant in the College of Arts and Sciences, in nominating Tobias, said, “Not only does Doug handle all areas in the history department, but he is available to help throughout the college with HR issues. He has taken on the responsibility as being part of the HR support team representing Arts and Sciences. He is always willing to help out with any given tasks even though the task may be outstanding of his normal responsibilities.”

Anna Dee Smith, a manager in the College of Arts and Sciences, said Tobias helps fellow liaisons in the college through his membership on the HR support team committee.

“Not only is Doug a resource for the other departments in our college, he is a resource for the Dean's Office,” said Smith. “I often rely on Doug to give the Dean's Office the 'department' perspective on issues as I know that he considers all sides of an issue.”

Tobias said that given the large number of UD employees deserving of recognition for skilled and caring delivery of HR-related services, his selection as liaison of the quarter reflects both a sense of humor and tolerance on the part of Human Resources.

“Over the past 12 years, they have helped me as I've worked in UD's international programs office and in departments in both the College of Engineering and for the past five years in the College of Arts and Sciences,” Tobias said. “The human resources function touches the life of every University employee and these quarterly nods of appreciation from HR to its partners across campus attests to the fact the human resources delivery is truly a team effort.”
