Films and speakers are as follows:

Feb. 22 -- International Sweethearts of Rhythm and Tiny and Ruby: Hell Divin' Women. These two films offer an affectionate portrait of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, a multi-racial, all-women's jazz band from the 1940s, and of Tiny Davis, the band's fabulous trumpeter and her partner, Ruby Lucas. Speaker will be Mary Ruth Warner of the Department of Women's Studies.

March 1 -- Tillie Olsen: A Heart in Action. Writer and activist Tillie Olsen is the subject of this inspiring biographical portrait. Speaker will be Gerald Turkel of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice.

March 8 -- Ahead of Time. This film uses interviews and rare archival footage to document the life of Ruth Gruber, a journalist, writer and world traveler who document the rise of Nazism and who helped save 1,000 Jewish refugees from the Holocaust. Special guest speaker will be Patti Kenner, executive producer of the film.

March 15 -- Orgasm, Inc.: The Strange Science of Female Pleasure. Liz Canner, the filmmaker, will be the special guest speaker, discussing her funny, upbeat, enlightening and provocative film about the pharmaceutical industry and women's health.

March 22 -- Radical Harmonies. Through festival and performance footage, interviews, and archival material, this film delves into the rich history of women's music. Guest will be singer/songwriter Deidre McCalla, who will both answer questions and perform a short concert. This film will be shown in Room 130 Smith Hall.

The series is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences; departments of Black American Studies, Anthropology, Communication, English, History, Music, Sociology and Women's Studies; Faculty Senate Committee on Cultural Activities and Public Events; Office of Equity and Inclusion; Student Centers Programming Advisory Board (SCPAB); and the Center for Political Communication.
