8:34 a.m., Feb. 24, 2011----Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Dominique Dawes, a 10-year member of the U.S. national team, will be the keynote speaker for the 24th annual Multi-Ethnic Career Development Conference to be held Saturday, March 5, in Clayton Hall on the University of Delaware's Laird Campus in Newark.

Dawes currently serves as co-chair of the President's Council for Fitness and Nutrition. She will speak at 9:45 a.m. in the Clayton Hall theatre.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m. with a welcome at 9:30 and the presentation by Dawes at 9:45.

There will be alumni panel discussions at 10:45 and at 11:40, followed by lunch and an afternoon presentation at 1:30.

The diversity career fair and networking event, open to conference attendees only, will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the main lobby.

The conference is designed to provide undergraduates from underrepresented groups and across all majors an excellent opportunity to hear from dynamic speakers, meet alumni, network with employers, and find internships and summer jobs.

Those who register could win an Apple iPad or a $750 bookstore gift certificate.

Participants will benefit by:

  • Meeting employers who embrace diversity and are interested in hiring students for summer jobs, internships, and full-time positions.
  • Talking with UD seniors who will share their experiences, provide tips on how to succeed academically and prepare for careers after college.
  • Meeting UD alumni from diverse backgrounds and getting ideas on how to improve your competitiveness before you graduate.
  • Getting ready for graduate school by learning the steps you need to take to prepare.
  • Identifying and utilizing University resources to jump start your career .

The conference is sponsored by the University of Delaware Career Services Center, JPMorgan, Air Products, Macy's, PWC and Pepsico.
