These two databases as well as all other databases provided by the library are available online. Go to the library webiste and then select “Databases.”

The Times of India, the world's most widely circulated English daily newspaper, was founded in 1838 to serve British residents of West India. Today this historical newspaper serves researchers interested in studying colonialism and post-colonialism; British and world history; class and gender issues; international relations; comparative religion; international economics; terrorism and more.

The Times of India with coverage from 1838-2001 illuminates key historical events such as the Sepoy Mutiny, which led to British rule in India; the formation of the Indian National Congress; and the rise of Gandhi's civil disobedience movement. It captures the 1947 partitioning of India and Pakistan; the war over the Kashmir region; and the creation of Bangladesh.

It reports on the assassinations of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi; the Bhopal industrial disaster which resulted in thousands of deaths; and the rise of Pakistan as a nuclear power. It also provides coverage of sports; the Indian film industry; and other stories of everyday life.

ProQuest Newspapers provides current full text access to hundreds of U.S. and international news sources. In addition to such major newspapers as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and The Times of London, it provides access to hundreds of other news sources and newswires.

ProQuest Newspapers also includes access to the News Journal, published in Wilmington, Del., and the major newspaper in Delaware, from 2002 to the present. Years of coverage varies from newspaper to newspaper.

ProQuest Newspapers complements other electronic newspaper resources provided by the Library, including, among others, LexisNexis Academic; the historical version of The New York Times (1851-2007); the historical file of the The Times of London (Times Digital Archive, 1785-1985); the historical file of The Wall Street Journal (1889-1987); 17th and 18th Century Burney Collection Newspapers; British Newspapers 1600-1900; Latin American Newspapers and African American Newspapers: The Nineteenth Century.

“The library is pleased to provide these two new databases which enrich the electronic resources across numerous disciplines offered for use to the University of Delaware faculty, students and staff,” observed Susan Brynteson, vice provost and May Morris Director of Libraries.
