3:20 p.m., Feb. 3, 2011----Bring your lunch and enjoy the soothing sounds of the Serafin String Quartet on Wednesday, Feb. 16, starting at noon in the foyer of the Institute for Global Studies (IGS) in Elliott Hall.
The performance is the latest presentation in the Global Music Hour/Brown Bag Lunch Series sponsored by the IGS. See the poster in PDF format for future events.
Applauded by the New York Concert Review for its “excellent music making ... uncommonly fine interpretation,” the Serafin String Quartet debuted to a sell-out crowd at New York City's Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2004 and made its overseas debut in London in Sept. 2010.
The quartet takes its name from master violin maker Sanctus Serafin, who in 1728 crafted the violin currently played by Kate Ransom. Joining her on the quartet are violinist Timothy Schwarz, cellist Lawrence Stomberg, and Ana Tsinadze on viola.
The group was appointed the Quartet in Residence at UD beginning in fall 2010. In addition to formal and informal performances, the quartet works with Department of Music students in a number of capacities including coaching student chamber music ensembles.
Centaur Records recently released Serafin String Quartet's first commercial disc, now available internationally.
