2:04 p.m., Feb. 9, 2011----Common, a Grammy Award-winning artist and philanthropist, will present “Raising Your Consciousness with a Common Sense Lecture” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.

The presentation is part of the University of Delaware Center for Black Culture's Black History Month events and is sponsored by the Cultural Programming Advisory Board.

Common will share with the UD community stories of human spirit and human nature, as well as challenging life lessons. He strives to inspire youngsters to make their dreams become realities and has devoted much of his life toward making a difference in people's lives.

Common is the founder of The Common Ground Foundation, which is an organization targeting youth in troubled communities. Here Common focuses on helping kids find their talents and teaches them how to use them effectively. The foundation also supports community centers, summer camps and scholarships.

Throughout Common's career, he has worked alongside many high profile celebrities including Tina Fey, Queen Latifah, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington. He has appeared in several hit films, such as Date Night, Just Wright, Terminator Salvation and American Gangster.

Tickets are on sale to University of Delaware students with a valid student ID at all University box offices and Ticketmaster. The general public will be able to purchase tickets starting Feb. 17.
