9:40 a.m., Feb. 17, 2011----Submissions are now being accepted for the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity Black History Month poetry contest. This year's themes are “Contributing to Society” and “Stepping Towards the Future.”

The University of Delaware has a Phi Beta Sigma chapter and the poetry contest is open to UD students, and other students currently enrolled at a college or university in the state. The deadline for submission of poems is Monday, Feb. 28.

Winners will be notified on Friday, March 4, and the grand prize winner will be honored at the Lambda Delta Sigma chapter's 10-year anniversary celebration March 12.

All prizes will be in the form of bookstore gift certificates from the student's respective college or university. The grand prize winner will receive a $200 gift certificate.

Poems should be no longer than one typed single-spaced page on standard 8.5 by 11-inch paper and may be written in any style. YouTube submissions should be no longer than five minutes. Poems must be the original and individual work of student. Each poetry submission, typed or oral, must include your name, phone number, email and the name of the college or university you currently attend.

Also, poems can be mailed to Lambda Delta Sigma chapter, P.O. Box 221, Bear, DE 19701, or sent by email in PDF format to [sigma.pbslds@gmail.com].
