8:06 a.m., Dec. 1, 2010----University of Delaware faculty, staff and students are invited to show their support for the volleyball team as the Blue Hens prepare to travel to State College, Pa., to begin NCAA tournament action during a team sendoff at 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Carpenter Sports Building.
The NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee announced the 64-team field on Sunday for the 2010 championship tournament. The UD volleyball team has drawn Virginia Tech in the first round, with the match to be played at Pennsylvania State University at 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 3, in Rec Hall.
The Blue Hens earned the Colonial Athletic Association's automatic qualifier after defeating Northeastern in the championship match on Nov. 21. The Hens are 26-5 overall and will be taking a 14-game winning streak into the NCAA championships.
This will be Delaware's third trip to the NCAA championships in the past four years, as they defeated Princeton, 3-1, before losing to St. John's in the second round in 2007. They returned to the NCAA tournament in 2008 but lost in the first round to No. 9 Oregon.
With a win on Friday, the Blue Hens would advance to play the winner of the Penn State-Niagara match at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, in Rec Hall.
