If you're 50 or over and appreciate an intellectual challenge while meeting new people, then come to the open house at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Wilmington (formerly the Academy of Lifelong Learning), where over 2,100 enthusiastic adults are sharing their talents and interests in one of the nation's largest and most vibrant academic cooperatives.

The open house is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 9 a.m.-noon, at Arsht Hall, 2700 Pennsylvania Ave., Wilmington. A preview of spring courses will be showcased, including computer literacy, Tai Chi, watercolor art, German language, and photography. Tours of Arsht Hall and light refreshments will also be offered.

Membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning program provides a wide variety of benefits for the $230 semester fee. This spring more than 245 courses and extracurricular activities are available. Topics include history (Delaware, U.S. and world), current events, economics, languages (10 in all, including Japanese, Greek and Portuguese), music, science, art and yoga to name a few.

Members may select up to five courses and participate in as many extracurricular activities as they desire. In addition, numerous lectures and cultural performances are scheduled. Travel is also an integral part of the cooperative with opportunities from local trips to international adventures. Members are encouraged to take advantage of University of Delaware benefits such as UD course auditing privileges, email and Internet accounts, and access to Morris Library and the student fitness center.

Classes begin Feb. 7, and registrations are currently being accepted. For more information, including a detailed registration schedule, complete course and activity listings, and gift certificate availability, call 302-573-4486, write to [LLL-wilm@udel.edu] or visit the website.
