8:38 a.m., Dec. 13, 2010----K.C. Five NCAA Football Championship Subdivision coaches have been named finalists following an evaluation phase, reached by 15 coaches through online balloting. In the evaluation phase, the 15 coaches were judged on coaching excellence, sportsmanship and integrity, academic excellence, and community commitment.

The five finalists are Keeler, Rob Ash of Montana State, Andy Talley of Villanova, Danny Rocco of Liberty and Beau Baldwin of Eastern Washington.

The votes of fans, combined with the votes of members of the College Football Hall of Fame and national media, will determine the winner. Now through Dec. 28, Blue Hens fans are encouraged to go to the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year website to vote for Keeler.

The winning coach will receive $50,000 for his favorite charities and $20,000 for his university's alumni association.

“This is a unique opportunity for Blue Hen fans to make their voices heard,” said a representative of UD's Office of Alumni Relations. “Unlike other college football awards, fan votes for Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year truly count, contributing 20 percent to each coach's final score. The remaining votes will come from College Football Hall of Fame coaches and players and members of the national college football media. Now is the time to show your Blue Hen pride and cast your vote for Coach Keeler.”

Once final votes are cast, the four winning coaches -- one from each of the NCAA divisions -- will be announced on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz., in advance of the NCAA Bowl Championship Subdivision national championship game.

The UD football team is now 11-2 following a 16-3 victory over the University of New Hampshire on Friday night at Delaware Stadium in the NCAA FCS championship tournament quarterfinals.

Keeler and the Hens will take on Georgia Southern in the semifinals at noon Saturday, Dec. 18, again at Delaware Stadium. For more information on the Hens or for game tickets, go to BlueHens.com.
