Guests of this year's Taste of Newark will enjoy the usual culinary delights of more than 45 Newark restaurants accompanied by the finest area wine distributors.

The variety and selection of great food and drink continues to be unsurpassed, and this year's event welcomes Newark newcomers Mojo Main, Groucho's Deli, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Mediterranean Grille, and Catherine Rooney's.

Familiar faces such as Caffe Gelato, Pinang, Ali Baba, Homegrown Café and over 35 others will also be showcasing their restaurants.

Last year's Newark battle of the chefs winner, Eric Aber of Homegrown Café, will defend his title against five talented Newark chefs. The restaurant chefs are subjected to an Iron Chef style competition in which they will battle it out with one hour to concoct two different dishes using the secret ingredient.

In addition to Aber, the competitors are Peter Shade of Klondike Kate's, Erin Finnegan of Kildare's Irish Pub, Pamela Roman of Pamela's Gourmet, Danny Profita of Caffe Gelato and Joseph DiGregorio of Vita Nova, the student-run restaurant in UD's Trabant University Center.

Taste of Newark tickets are now on sale for $40 and can be purchased at the Taste of Newark office, 273 East Main St., and in the city's Planning and Development Department, 220 Elkton Road. On the day of the event there will be a limited number of tickets available for $50. For more information, call 368-2561, extension 12.
