Young skater brings home top prize
Emmanuel Savary places first at Gardena Spring Trophy 2011
11:38 a.m., April 12, 2011--Emmanuel Savary, a young member of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club, took first prize at the 21st Gardena Spring Trophy event in Selva Gardena, Italy. The event, held from March 31 through April 3, was a novice, junior, and senior international competition for ladies and men.
Savary was in first place after the men’s novice short program with a total score of 37.97. He then finished the day after a free skate program with an overall score of 115.17, which was enough to place him atop the podium.

Savary, just 12 years of age, trains in Newark at the High Performance Figure Skating Center in the Fred Rust Ice Arena at the University of Delaware. He trains under Ron Ludington and Jeff DiGregorio, two of UD’s finest skating instructors.
Savary has been skating since age three and has already collected numerous medals including the 2009 U.S. intermediate men’s championship and the 2010 U.S. novice men’s silver medal at the AT&T Figure Skating Championships. He has dreams of someday becoming a Winter Olympic champion.
