2:42 p.m., Sept. 29, 2009----Patrick A. Ogden, a law enforcement professional who has had a 22-year career at the Delaware State Police, has been named director of Public Safety at the University of Delaware, Albert "Skip" Homiak, executive director of campus and public safety at the University, announced today. His appointment is effective Oct. 12.

“Capt. Ogden brings a wide range of experience in public safety and community service," Homiak said. "I look forward to working with him in addressing one of the University's top priorities: providing a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, staff and visitors.”

“I have had a rewarding career as a proud member of the Delaware State Police and anticipate utilizing my experience and training to enhance public safety at the University of Delaware,” Ogden said. “I look forward to working with the Department of Campus and Public Safety, which is comprised of a dedicated group of law enforcement professionals who are committed to working closely with the Newark Police Department and other agencies throughout the state to make our campus one of the safest in the nation.”

A lifelong Delaware resident, Ogden currently serves as unit commander of the Delaware State Police Troop Two Criminal Investigative Unit. His career at the State Police has included service in a variety of operational and administrative positions, including patrol, criminal investigations, DEA Task Force, special investigations and traffic.

As troop commander, he managed all police operations that served a large population of citizens, developed and executed a plan to target repeat offenders, spearheaded the Claymont Drug Initiative and implemented a full-time traffic enforcement unit.

His honors include the Excellence in Government Service Award from the Federal Executive Board in 1999 and several department awards, including Superintendent's Citations in 1997 and 1995, Exceptional Performance Award in 1995, Co-Trooper of the Year in 1990 and the Valor Award in 1989.

A graduate of Wilmington University, he has completed several specialized training programs through the Northwestern University Traffic Institute, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the International Association of Chief of Police, the National Tactical Officers Association and the U.S. Secret Service.
