7:58 a.m., Oct. 8, 2009----Barbara Stephens, senior administrative assistant in agricultural research at the University of Delaware's Carvel Research and Education Center in Georgetown, has been named the HR Liaison of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2009, recognition given to exemplary members of UD's human resources team.

“I am honored and surprised to receive the award,” Stephens said, “especially since we are located far away from the Newark campus.”

Stephens has worked for three directors during the past 35 years she has been at the Georgetown facility. She said she enjoys her job and the people she works with, including a support staff of six. “I wear a variety of different hats and try to do whatever job comes my way -- I am never bored, and it's challenging” she said.

Stephens works with Kathryn Hutton, assistant dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, who was one of those recommending her for the award.

“She is a vital link to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources,” Hutton wrote. “I can count on Barb's pleasant personality to handle a multitude of HR issues at our Sussex County location. The HR forms she submits are completed accurately and with the necessary backup. I have worked with Barb for over 25 years and feel she is very deserving of this recognition.”

“The Carvel Center is a good facility with people who work closely with the public, delivering research to the farming community. Cooperative Extension also is part of the center, and we educate people of all ages and serve the people of Delaware,” Stephens said.

“The center is my second home, and I am very appreciative of all the University of Delaware has done for me and my family. My son Jonathan is a graduate of UD and is now in graduate school in civil engineering and my daughter Jennifer is a senior,” she said.
