2:45 p.m., Nov. 6, 2009----Gary Simon of the University of Delaware has been selected the 2009 State Star by the Delaware Small Business Development Center, it was announced recently by Clinton Tymes, director of the Delaware Small Business Development Center Network.
“I am pleased to make this announcement, and to recognize Gary Simon for extraordinary contributions to the work of the Delaware SBDC and small business in Delaware,” said Tymes.
Simon is a business adviser at the University of Delaware Small Business Development Center serving New Castle County. He also serves as the network's lead technology counselor, and has been instrumental in expanding the center's services in the technology commercialization area.
A new Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) assistance program, work with UD faculty on options for bringing innovations to the marketplace and upcoming programs on attracting investors are among the achievements that led to the award.
“Gary's work has also helped the Delaware Small Business Development Center and the University of Delaware's Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships expand the services that OEIP offers to faculty who have developed new technologies,” said David Weir, director of OEIP.
America's Small Business Development Center (ASBDC) Network is a partnership that unites private enterprise, government, higher education and local nonprofit economic development organizations.
It is the U.S. Small Business Administration's largest partnership program, providing management and technical assistance to help Americans start, run and grow their own businesses.
In Delaware, the Small Business Development Center is a partnership with the SBA, the University of Delaware's Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships, the Delaware Economic Development Office and Delaware State University. More information on the DSBDC can be found at the Web site.
A special awards reception honoring the ASBDC 2009 State Stars was held Sept. 19 in Orlando in conjunction with organization's 29th annual conference.
