The Reindeer Run will be a 5-kilometer event and the Romp will be a 3-kilometer event.

Both races will begin on Academy Street near Delaware Avenue and proceed south to the James F. Hall Trail. Runners will head east on the trail for three-quarters of a mile and then turn around to loop back to the finish line; walkers will head west before turning around to return.

A unique feature of both events is a luminary-lit course to guide the participants. Employees from Bank of New York Mellon will join University of Delaware sororities, fraternities and other community organizations to line the course providing encouragement.

The entry fee for runners and walkers is $20 for pre-registered participants, $25 day-of, and includes a long-sleeve event T-shirt, discount coupons for Main Street merchants and post-event refreshments. For details and to register, see the Special Olympics Delaware Web site.

Participants in the event are being encouraged to donate a canned good in support of Winterfest's efforts to support the Food Bank.

Organizers anticipate more than 400 participants.

University of Delaware Transportation has announced changes to shuttle bus routes to accommodate the race.
