NACUA is the nation's leading professional association of attorneys who specialize in providing legal services to colleges and universities. NACUA has more than 3,000 individual members nationwide.

NACUA, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, was founded in 1960. Its purpose is to enhance legal assistance to colleges and universities by educating members of the campus community on legal issues pertinent to higher education.

White was one of four Distinguished Service Award recipients, joining Lucien “Skip” Capone, III, university counsel at the University of North Carolina Asheville; Henry L. Cuthbert, associate university counsel at Duke University; and Georgia Yuan, deputy general counsel for the U.S. Department of Education's Post-Secondary Education and Regulatory Service.

White was named vice president and general counsel at the University of Delaware in July, 2009, serving as the University's chief legal officer and overseeing all legal affairs and services at UD.

Before coming to UD, White previously served as university counsel at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and as deputy general counsel at the University of Virginia. He also served as counsel to Morgan State University and the University of Maryland System.

An adjunct member of the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, White has also taught at Georgetown University and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. In 2002, he received the William G. Whitney Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching, awarded annually to affiliated faculty members in the Wharton School.

White, who earned a bachelor's degree cum laude from Harvard University in 1971, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1975. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1971-77.
