They are Fran Fox, Michael Kalmbach, who was recently honored with a 2009 Christi Award for arts advocacy by the Christina Cultural Arts Center, and Anthony Vega, who is directing the UD@Crane program at Philadelphia's Crane Arts Building this year.

The National Wet Paint Exhibition is an outlook and an overview of emerging artists across the United States currently working in the medium of painting. Wet Paint refers to the idea that this is a fresh group of artists.

The exhibition consists of 52 paintings by artists selected from a national call that resulted in 255 submissions. It takes place in the main gallery of the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood.

The Zhou B Art Center is a private, non-government funded art center designed to facilitate the exchange of contemporary art between Chicago and the international art community.

All the works in the exhibition will be permanently available online at the Visual Art Today Web site.

The National Wet Paint Exhibition was curated and organized by Sergio Gomez, independent curator at the Zhou B Art Center.

Chicago presence

The National Wet Paint Exhibition will be on view at the same time as the annual College Art Association meeting, scheduled Feb. 10-13, also in Chicago. Rene Marquez and Lance Winn, UD associate professors in the Department of Art, are curating an exhibition, “The Object of Nostalgia,” in conjunction with the CAA meeting. This exhibition will be on view from Jan. 14 through Feb. 20 at the Columbia College Chicago Art and Design Gallery.

Also, Troy Richards, assistant professor of art, will have a solo show opening Feb. 12 at the Thomas Robertello Gallery in Chicago.

Following the CAA events, several UD faculty will be in Chicago for the Design Principles and Practices Conference to lead workshops and present papers. Janet Hethorn, chairperson of the Department of Art, will lead a workshop on “Design Thinking” with Jules Bruck, assistant professor of landscape design in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, and Tony Middlebrooks, assistant professor in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. Also, Ashley Pigford, assistant professor of art, will present a paper on design methodology.
