American History in Video from Alexander Street Press is a growing collection of videos available online for the study of American history, with 2,000 hours and more than 5,000 titles planned for the complete collection.

The collection allows students and researchers to analyze historical events, and their presentation over time, through commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage and important documentaries.

Individual users can create personal playlists, which can include whole videos, tracks, segments (clips) and/or other items such as links to any URL. Playlists can be annotated, edited, copied and shared.

American History in Video is available from the databases page of the University Library Web site or directly at this Web page.

The current release provides 4,154 titles, with videos from news partners, Newsreel Films and Documentary Educational Resources, as well as videos from PBS and The History Channel, archival footage from NASA and NARA, additional titles from Universal Newsreel, and much more, equaling approximately 1,019 hours. Videos cover the period from the discovery of the Americas to the late 20th century.
