6:04 p.m., Feb. 4, 2010----Newark Police are investigating two unrelated incidents that both occurred on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 3 -- an armed street robbery and a road rage incident.
The armed street robbery occurred around 9:40 p.m. near Building 25 of the South Gate Apartments on Marvin Drive in Newark. A 26-year-old man was walking to a friend's apartment when he was approached by two men. One of them produced a handgun and demanded money. The victim surrendered his wallet and the suspects fled the area. The victim, who lives in Newark but not in the apartment complex, was not injured.
The suspects are described at 20 to 30 years of age. One is about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 180 to 200 pounds and wearing a black hooded jacket with the hood up over his head. The second suspect is about 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 200-220 pounds.
Information about this incident should be reported to Detective Michael Watson at (302) 366-7110, ext. 133, or by e-mail at [Michael.Watson@cj.state.de.us].
The road rage incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Main Street in Newark. A woman pulled onto Main Street from a parking lot and inadvertently failed to turn on the car's headlights. A truck approached from behind and began tailgating. The driver of the truck began flashing his headlights, sounding a horn and turned on overhead lights on the truck. The car's driver realized her headlights were off and turned them on.
The truck driver continued harassing actions. When the woman stopped her car at a red light at Main Street and College Avenue, the truck pulled alongside. The truck driver yelled and cursed at the car driver, pumped his fist as if punching at the driver, then displayed a handgun and raised it toward the roof of the truck while continuing to yell. After the light turned green, the truck followed the car for a short distance and was last seen driving down Elkton Road.
The truck is described as a red pickup with a dual wheel rear axle and a wheel lift on the back, similar to trucks commonly used by repossessors. A phone number on the truck is believed to begin with 302 and end in 7022; the middle digits are unknown. The driver is described as being in his mid 20s to early 30s, heavy set with fair skin, and clean shaven. He was wearing a black winter hat.
Information about this incident or the suspect should be reported to Corporal Chris Jones at (302) 366-7110, ext. 409 or by e-mail to [Christopher.Jones@cj.state.de.us].
Information on either incident can be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, where a reward may be available. Tips also can be texted to 302NPD, with the tip sent to TIP411 (847411).
