Hamm's talk, “Achieving Personal Excellence,” is part of the UD Speaks series. UD Speaks is dedicated to bringing world-class leaders to the Delaware campus to educate, enlighten and engage the University community. The speech will be followed by a question and answer session.

The event will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center. Tickets will go on sale at UD box offices at the Trabant University Center and Bob Carpenter Center, and via Ticketmaster, on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Prices are $5 for students, $7 for faculty and staff, and $10 for the public. All seating is general admission.

Hamm will discuss her life story, focusing on both soccer and her dedication to bone marrow disease awareness. She is generally hailed as the all-time greatest women's soccer player.

Hamm led the U.S. Olympic team to gold medals in 1996 and 2004. In 1991, she was the youngest player on the U.S. World Cup team, which won soccer's biggest competition that year and again in 1999.

She is a National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee and one of only two women on FIFA's ranking of 125 greatest players of all time.

Hamm founded the Mia Hamm Foundation after she lost her brother, Garret, to complications related to aplastic anemia. The foundation raises funds and awareness for bone marrow disease research.

Hamm also authored the best selling book, Go for the Goal: A Champion's Guide to Winning in Soccer and Life.
