KAndy for KAuse

Kappa Alpha's “KAndy for a KAuse” event raised a total of $750 in five days. Exactly $700 was raised from the students, with the remainder coming from alumni supporters.

Brothers of Kappa Alpha set up a table outside of their house, the KAstle at 19 Amstel Ave., and gave out candy in return for a donation of any amount. Midway through day two, they moved across the street and set their table up between Smith and Purnell halls. A donation jar was also set up at The Cereal Bowl on Main Street.

Donations ranged in size from small pocket change to $100, which one student generously donated.

“I am very grateful for the support we received, and I know that the Red Cross will appreciate the support very much as well,” said Dante Ingato, president of Kappa Alpha .

Get on the Ball

The Epsilon Theta chapter of Zeta Beta Tau raised approximately $1,130 for the Haiti Relief Foundation through the Red Cross.

From Feb. 16-19, brothers of Zeta Beta Tau rolled a 6-foot ball through various parts of campus, asking students, faculty and staff to sign it for a suggested donation of $1.

Their goal was to obtain 400 to 500 signatures, but by the end of the event they had exceeded their goal with 643 signatures.

“We greatly surpassed our initial goals and are grateful that so many people wanted to help. It was really great to run an event where we got the whole student body involved to help the people in Haiti, who are in dire need,” Scott Schmugar, president of the Epsilon Theta chapter, said.

Zeta Beta Tau plans to hold this event annually.
