The 2011 edition of "America's Best Graduate Schools" also ranks the following graduate programs at UD:

• Department of Chemical Engineering: 10; and

• College of Engineering: 45 (tied with Iowa State University).

The new guide also picks up the following rankings from previous years: Nursing: 72 (its 2007 ranking); Physical Therapy: 4 (its 2008 ranking); Public Affairs: 41 (its 2008 ranking); and City Management: 10 (its 2008 ranking).

"We're very excited about the improvement," said Kathy Minke, director of the School of Education, which is in the College of Education and Public Policy. "It recognizes the efforts of our faculty to continue to attract bright and motivated students and engage in outstanding research that attracts external funds."

UD's program shares the 28th position with Virginia Commonwealth University. Overall, Vanderbilt University is recognized as having the best graduate program in education, followed by Columbia University, Harvard University and Stanford University.

At UD, there are about 500 students enrolled in the 11 graduate education programs offered.

"Even now, we are upgrading and expanding our graduate programs," commented Minke. "New degree options like the Master's in Teaching program will continue to attract highly qualified professionals to the field of education, while providing a significant service to our school districts."

U.S. News and World Report's 2011 edition of "America's Best Graduate Schools" will be highlighted in the May print issue of U.S. News & World Report magazine, available at newsstands on April 27. The guidebook will go on sale April 20.

Rankings are based on expert opinions about program quality and statistical indicators measuring faculty, research and students.
