12:44 p.m., Sept. 8, 2008----The Scrounge in the Perkins Student Center now offers a new selection of Mexican-style foods and a new Dunkin' Donuts bakery for those who enjoy a cup of Joe and perhaps a doughnut or two.
The new UD Dunkin' Donuts location is part of the coffee giant that is headquartered in Canton, Mass. Dunkin' Donuts operates more than 7,988 stores around the globe, including 5,769 franchised restaurants in the United States, and 2,219 internationally, according to its Web site [www.dunkindonuts.com/aboutus/company].
Serving more than 3 million customers daily, offering bagels, breakfast sandwiches, along with 52 varieties of donuts and more than a dozen coffee beverages, Dunkin' Donuts is the worlds largest coffee and baked goods chain.
“The Perkins' location will be a full-service operation, offering pretty much everything a standard Dunkin' Donuts stores has to offer, with the exception of the Baskin Robins ice cream items,” Ryan Boyer, director of marketing in Dining Services,” said. “Our menu will include coffee, iced coffees and all of the specials that would be available in any of the chain's locations.”
To help ensure product freshness, all donuts will be baked on location, using the latest state-of-the art equipment, Boyer said.
“Two of our managers participated in a total of three weeks of training in northern New Jersey and at the Dunkin' Donuts headquarters,” Boyer said. “Our Dining Service employees also received training...just prior to the start of the fall semester.”
Boyer said The Scrounge seemed like the perfect spot and that Dunkin' Donuts seemed like the right choice to meet the demands of busy students, faculty and staff, with the option of eating in or take out.
“This is very exciting for us,” Boyer said. “It's our first new concept since Quiznos opened in the Trabant University Center food court. We feel that students and staff will really like this.”
Zoca
Also new at Perkins this fall is Zoca, a Mexican-style restaurant that is a branded food concept from Aramark, Boyer said.
Menu items range from overstuffed burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tacos and other salads prepared with shredded chicken, beef, pork or portabella mushrooms.
“Items will be made to order, and you can see it made fresh, while having the option to choose from assorted salsas to top off your menu choice,” Boyer said. “With the Zoca and Dunkin' Donuts options, we are trying to create an dining environment that has a new feel and look to it-something that students and staff should find enjoyable.”
