4:45 p.m., Nov. 5, 2008----The University of Delaware will celebrate Joe Flacco Day during the home football game against Towson University to be played at noon, Saturday, Nov. 8, at Delaware Stadium.
The University will offer free Joe Flacco commemorative cards and spirit sticks to the first 1,500 students who come through the gates for the Colonial Athletic Association showdown, and fans who buy a game program will get a Joe Flacco card that has been inserted into the program.
Also, there will be a special chance to win a football or Baltimore Ravens jersey signed by Flacco, a former Blue Hens quarterback who was selected in the first round of the National Football League draft by the Ravens.
Flacco is the starting quarterback for Baltimore and has led the team to a 5-3 record, completing 136 of 220 passes for 1,464 yards and five touchdowns.
Flacco will be preparing for a game in Houston against the Texans on Sunday, Nov. 9, and will be unable to attend the game. However, he will deliver a video message via the new Delaware Stadium videoboard.
In 2007, Flacco led the Blue Hens to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision title game, which they lost to Appalachian State University.
“Joe Flacco was an outstanding quarterback for the University of Delaware and we are thrilled to honor his contributions to Blue Hen football on Joe Flacco Day,” Curt Krouse, assistant athletics director for marketing, said. “We encourage the student body to turn out to honor Joe and to cheer on the Hens.”
Students were alerted to Joe Flacco Day through blue and gold door hangers distributed throughout residence halls. The hangers read, “Sleeping in Blue Hen Country: Do Not Disturb.”
Students are reminded that the Delaware Stadium gates open two hours prior to kickoff and seating is limited on a first come, first served basis. Convenient shuttle bus transportation to the stadium will begin at 9:30 a.m. To be admitted to the south end zone student section, show a valid University ID upon entry through the south end zone gate.
